Don't think i've read a M.R.James story before, but i would like to read more.
Very atmospheric and creepy, the creepiness steadily increasing.
The professors bantering with each other at campus in the beginning is immediately engaging.
A must-read for all lovers of ghost stories.

Ghost stories and M.R. James go together. Descriptive, engaging, and down right creepy. Good story!

The narrator in this story seems to be speaking directly to the reader on a couple of occasions. Not something you come across often.
Another page turner from MR James. James is great at creating a haunting atmosphere in this story and his others. Parkins' narrow view of the world and rejection of the supernatural sets up the ending nicely as Parkins has no clue as to what is happening.

I can recommend "The Mezzotint" by him...still widely available, I think. An entirely different kind of ghost story.
