Wow...this one made me sad. (Although I enjoyed it.) I don't want to post any spoilers since it's still early in the thread, but I'll just say it was like meeting a whole little neighborhood of ghosts.

An exceptional and unique story. Having the ghost as the narrator is interesting. This is a reflective and sad tale of a ghost (stuck in limbo) observing both sides, the living and the dead.

A different way of moralizing a ghost via it observing both the dead and the living, while trying to understand his own situation. Enjoyed this approach in the short story.

Good Hawthorn gives us a real treat! An often sad and always beautiful telling of an extraordinary tale, from a very unique perspective. I really liked everything about this one. Beautifully executed and full of fine phantasmic secrets.
Really enjoyed this shade and its ‘vessel/vehicle’. 😄
Just a few favorite lines from the beginning to the end 😊 :
“….heavy with the burden of mortal language…”
“…. Sprites, that were poets once, and are now all poetry, hover round the dreaming bard…”
“….. and when the preacher rises nearest to the level of his mighty subject, it is because the prophets of old days have communed with him…..”
“…. Poor author! How will he despise what he can grasp, for the sake of the dim glory that eludes him!….”
“…. listening in the glimmer of the firelight, and is almost gifted with a visible shape by the fond intensity of their remembrance.”
“….. and play my part among the figures of his dreams. I glide through the moonlight of his waking fancy, and whisper conceptions, which, with a strange thrill of fear, he writes down as his own.”
“…. my visit may hallow the wellsprings of thy thought, and make thee heavenly here on earth. Then shall pure dreams and holy meditations bless thy life; nor thy sainted spirit linger round the grave, but seek the upper stars, and meet me there!”

….the only thing I’m wondering is “where’s the goblins?”
