A strange but interesting tale of a baby being born in an all male mining camp (the one woman dies in childbirth). When the men decide to raise the baby, a new hope spreads over the camp and they even start to reform themselves.
There seems to be a similarity to the story of Christ as far as the birth of the child and the men bringing gifts and the men's love of the child.

Spot on, wireman. A re telling of the biblical life of Christ, set in Roaring Camp-a city of refuge. The men were sinners, and the baby brought about changes within them- redemption. Did enjoy the men bringing gifts to the baby. The ending was sad.

That was a great story that somehow manages to fuse
tragedy and beauty together very well.
I'll see if i can find some more storys by Bret Harte.
