This is a survival of the fittest story where an elderly Indian chief that is old an no longer productive sits in the cold and waits to die. While waiting for death, he recounts moments in his life and thinks of instances of the harsh realities of this way of life. He compares human life to animal life:
"It was the same everywhere, with all things. The mosquitoes vanished with the first frost. The little tree-squirrel crawled away to die. When age settled upon the rabbit it became slow and heavy and could no longer outfoot it's enemies... "
The old chief also recounts good times and accepts his fate with no regrets.

I am almost sure I read this story in school. Law of Life- acceptance, mortality, tradition, struggle, loneliness, selfishness all within this story. This is the way of life for the tribe. Would modern day man do the same?
