This is a unique take on punishment best summed up by this line from the story:
"God, but it was ironic, that he should invent a time machine and have it converted into a clock, and that he, in it's pendulum, should mete out the years-traveling with time."
This story does a great job of mixing splendor with dread.
The advanced civilization in the story still seems to like revenge.

Really have been enjoying the short stories you have picked for the group. Bradbury catches the feelings of dread and wonder. Your quote, wireman, sums it up perfectly.
