The Stand is turning forty this year and Pet Sematary will be thirty-five. Both are getting remakes next year, too. Has the SKMB ever done a group read of either book? Maybe we can do that in the fall. Any opinions?

Hi - Don't know if a group read has ever been done - they are both pretty big books, especially The Stand.
I'm replying here because you asked me a question in the Ka-Tet Cantina [here] but when I tried to quote you or reply it did not work.
To answer your question - no - I did not see any thing you posted to me on the SKMB. On Wednesday I only logged on long enough to send a quick message to Fljoe0 in a conversation, asking him to mention that I was sick, in case anyone was wondering where I was.
Now that I am feeling a bit better and well enough to post, the dang SKMB is down for maintenance [insert facepalm here].
Well, better go do something (have a bath in bath salts, do a load of laundry or something). I'm still not feeling very well, but I feel I must do something other than just lie around in bed.
I was surprised when the doctor said it was bronchitis because my breathing is fine. I do have other symptoms more like swollen glands in my throat etc. Anyway, still taking the antibiotics he prescribed.
Hope you have a good weekend! ♥

Maybe we can do that in the fall. Any opinions? I think a group read/discussion would be fun. It's logistically hard to do, especially with a long book, like this one is. We have done the short stories in the past and they work pretty well, simply because they are short and have a hard stopping place. So if faster readers read ahead to the next story, no worries because we aren't discussing that one yet. What happened when we tried a novel is that the fast readers read on, not stopping at page X, end of chapter Y as requested. For many it was a re-read anyway. So the discussion part was disjointed because we weren't all talking about the same parts. Maybe if you announced it now, then give folks until a certain date in the future to read, then we all discuss the whole book, that might be easier. Or we can try it again and see if everyone can maintain their discipline better now. Either way, let me know. I'm on board. Both books are favorites of mine!

Hi, Do-ya I will definitely alert you if I spearhead a group discussion. I agree with all the points you made but I would add we could announce that members are reading the book and set a time X-amount of weeks later when everyone has had time to complete it. As you said, it'll be a reread for most of the members, anyway. I think I'd leave the comment section open for anyone who wanted to leave comments as they read along but still have the set time later for an official group discussion. Maybe I'll do this in September to commemorate the 40th anniversary. Thanks for the feedback. I just realized that this is the movie section, ha. Sorry, Frank. Doc is sorry, laws yes.

(rofl) It's alright! We can also watch the mini-series and discuss!! P.S. Like the idea very much! I'll be on the lookout in Sept.

I bought a copy of the original novel a while back. I don't think I've read it since it came out. I've read the revised edition twice. Skimom has said that she likes the original version better so I thought I'd read the old one one of these days.

I like your ideas for exploring different short story collections. I'm going to try and participate this time. Maybe I will poll everyone about having a group read of The Stand in September.
