Frank, Germany is not in a good position at all! They've got to get a result, preferably a win, against Spain on Sunday, no easy task ... With Japan already on three points, they've all but qualified if they can get a win against Costa Rica which, based on their last performance, should be a sure thing. And with Spain's great goal difference, its really hard for me to find a way for Germany to get out of the group ...
Surely Flick's got to go if that happens? Two World Cups in a row where Germany doesn't get out the group is an utter disaster.

If Spain beat Japan and Costa Rica are beaten by Germany, then Germany go through ... But will Spain do Japan a favour and play for a draw? Japan would go through on goal difference and h2h. Would make sense for Spain to want to possibly play Japan later in the competition than Germany!

If Spain beat Japan and Costa Rica are beaten by Germany, then Germany go through ... But will Spain do Japan a favour and play for a draw? Japan would go through on goal difference and h2h. Would make sense for Spain to want to possibly play Japan later in the competition than Germany!
And barring any wild surprises, Spain should be motivated enough to being their best against Japan.
So, odds seem in favor of Germany as things stand.

WOW! Well done, Australia! No one gave them a chance in this group and now they're out! Awesome. They were really good in all their games, playing really well on the counter! And that was a great goal to send the Euro Championship semi-finalists out! That's what Denmark gets for not putting England out at the Euros. Best of luck to them in the next round!
