I just finished watching the original Carrie and the 2013 remake and I got to pondering on some issues about the story. I won't touch on many of them here cause its kinda hot topic but I have two thoughts I'd like to discuss, the face that Carrie is not the protagonist and that, in the end, Margrett White was right.
Let's face it, Carrie is one of (but not the main) villains of the story. Sue Snell is, in fact, the protagonist of these movies. She is the one who has the larger character arc and, while starting off bad, actually grows and becomes good. She heroically tries to prevent what happens at the prom and even tries to help Carrie after everything happens. Yes, Carrie was a victim, but that doesn't excuse what she did or the fact that she was well aware of her actions.
And let's face it, Margrett White was right. If Carrie had stayed home that night, none of that would have happened. I don't excuse her actions, she is tied with Chris for being the main villain of the story, but she did properly predict that Carrie would be hurt at the prom and that no good would come of it.
Just some thoughts. What are yours?
