Another O Henry story with a twist at the end. Must admit was so involved in the story that I did not see it coming. The opening quote sets the stage: The most notable thing about Time is that it is so purely relative. A large amount of reminiscence is, by common consent, conceded to the drowning man; and it is not past belief that one may review an entire courtship while removing one's gloves.

O. Henry's stories are very short but they pack a punch.
I did not see that ending coming either. The opening quote needs to be re-read when you finish the story.
Telling the story in third person narrative is crucial to this story as it allows a completely objective telling of the events.
The cactus symbolizes the pain and wounds suffered.
Trysdale suffered a much worse fate than he deserved because of not correcting a simple exaggeration.
