This was fun to read again. It's a classic full of great characters and a detailed local history. The story takes place close to the independence of America and I think that comes through in the locals. The story mixes the supposed supernatural elements with town history. Ichabod allows the legends of supernatural events to cloud reality and he can't separate reality from imagination. The town is called Sleepy Hollow and nothing seems to be going on in the town (other than their love of telling supernatural legends).
This story and many of these old stories uses the technique of a narrator finding a diary or documents or relaying information from an old local. Kind of the equivalent to the found footage movies.

An enjoyable re read. Been ages. Excellent review, wireman. Elements of supernatural, reality, love interests and a sleepy little town. Reading the story before the movie was made allowed the mind to make its own movie. Irving managed to paint a perfect picture of the sleepy hallow.

Suggestion for next group read? ( I would say Stoker's "The White Worm", but it's just too damn long. And I'm not good at finding 'alright online links'. ...I'm better off leaving that to you guys. )

The Discussion for Wednesday will be Dr. Heidegger's Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne
(I'll take a look at The White Worm and see how long it is and consider it another time)

oh! Don't worry about it! I thought it was a short story, but it's a novel or novella. I think it was way over 300 pages long. 🙂
