So here I am again reviewing yet another 1:12 figure, I figured I'd take a break after Chucky but I've had eye on the 1:12 Blade for awhile but it was going for 250-300, but I found one for a bit less. Now I usually do sell these figures when they go up in value a little, so I don't have all of the ones I've reviewed, like the Pennywise or the Michael, but this one is keeper, I'll explain why in the review,
First off, most will notice by the pic below, the figure doesn't exactly look like Wesley Snipes, looks even less like him when the sunglasses are removed, and its missing the armored vest. They could have easily gone the Wesley route, so I'm assuming Marvel said not to, so they went with a blend of Wesley and the animated Blade, but it looks enough like Wesley's Blade to satisfy me. Weapon wise, way too many weapons, put most of them away, it comes with the spinning things he uses, his sword, a few guns, and a second heard with his fangs out, which looks nothing at all like Wesley so that head went poof (like I said, this ones probably a keeper). I only got two pairs of sunglasses, one reviewer said he got four, so I got jacked, but while they can fall off and vanish, shouldn't be an issue for me since its in an enclosed case, so if they do fall off, they should just be in the case. The trenchcoat has a lot of work put into it, its faux leather, has an actual zipper, which is impossible for me to re-zip but it can be re-zipped if someone is more patient than I am, and it has some wires in it so it can be posed in different ways, The sword has a sheath which clips on to this little magnet and the magnet pops on to Blade's back, even through the trenchcoat, it does hold better without it but I made a little mod, so its held on rather tight. As I said before, the head sculpt is a little off from looking like Wesley but still has tons of wicked Mezco detail, they did a great job on the hair style and the tats. As for the rest of the clothing, they used faux leather for the pants and the boots look killer, but you'll notice, from the pic, one thing is missing clothing wise, the armored vest, its just a black t-shirt.
And now for the pic...
Why is Blade nostalgic for me? Brings back memories of when comic book films finally got better, and darker. As for the armored vest, various toy modders have made exact replicas of the vest for the figure and tend to sell them on Ebay for about 20 dollars, one basically has to pop off its head, take off the coat, and then the vest just slips over the torso and has snap ons similar to the ones those old He-Man figures used to have, then the coat could be put back on. But, the coat is already on the figure pretty tightly, so I'd be a little iffy on it damaging the coat long. So its something I'll think about but I probably won't go that route because the way I have the figure displayed, the coat is almost fully closed. I dunno...
In short, while I think Mezco did their best work so far with Pennywise and Hellboy, they easily get 5 stars, Blade gets 4 and a half, the eyes are just a little goofy, don't seem since the sunglasses are popped on, but it takes half star away from the figure.
Well that's probably it until the fall unless I come across a huge surprise, don't see that happening though.
