I think the Long Walk is one of the most overlooked SK stories out there. Considering he came out with the idea back in the 70s, then it was all redone when the Hunger Games came out, yes - I think you are right!

I think the Long Walk is one of the most overlooked SK stories out there. One of the books I want to get my hands on is the original The Long Walk book that looks like this:
The pathetic part of all this is that I found one back in 2015 when we were in Riding Mountain for our 10th wedding anniversary. It was at a used clothing store where they had a small selection of books. They wanted 4 dollars for it but I picked it up, thought about it, then put it back.
It wasn't until I got home and was Googling something else when I ran across the fact that this particular copy (i.e. first edition) is worth quite a bit and is hard to find.

Oh well - I missed out on a chance to buy it cheap so I will probably end up spending a few dollars getting a copy of it one day, unless I get super lucky again!

This book was published in 1979, the same year The Dead Zone was published. Both turn the big 4-0 this year.
(@osnafrank : no big deal, but this thread belongs in Books, not Movies. I don't know how to move it. Do you want to just leave it as it is?)

Hunger Games is just a shameless ripoff of the 1999 Japanese novel, Battle Royale. Susan Collins is to Koushun Takami what Thomas Edison was to Nikola Tesla. The long walk has compatibilies sure, but Hunger Games is as shameless as a rip-off can get compared to Battle Royale.

The Long Walk is my favorite 'Bachman' novel. I never read anything like it before. I'm sure that I had seen it in book stores back when it was first published (not knowing it was really a King book) but I never gave it a second thought if I did see it. I do know that I had actually picked up a copy of The Running Man in a store, looked it over and thought it was just a sci-fi book and put it back. The Long Walk has a zombie, too. One of the boys is killed off early but then shows up towards the end of the book.

The price has gone up significantly for the one with the red cover (still wishing I had bought that copy back in 2015 when we went to Riding Mountain on our 10th wedding anniversary) - it was only 4 bucks!
I know - I'll ask for it for our 15th anniversary but that's not until 2020

Yes, I have first printings in both the US and Canadian editions. Prices are quite high for this book. I've only run across a few copies in my searching. I find more copies of The Running Man out of all of the Bachman paperbacks. Never have found Rage or Road Work. Both of those I had to buy from sellers on ebay.

All of the Bachman paperbacks had Canadian versions. They are exactly the same but state at the bottom of the copyright page: Printed In Canada, so if you're looking to buy any of these books make sure the seller either has a picture of the copyright page showing where it was printed (most collectors prefer the ones printed in the US) or if they don't have a picture then be sure to ask.

I think the Long Walk is one of the most overlooked SK stories out there. I am really interested in reading this story (although I would like to get it on the collection that also has "Rage" in it, so it may take a while). Mostly because of fan art or cosplay photographs submitted to this gallery: The Long WalkIt does not have a lot of entries, but they are all really interesting to me and made me really want to read this story. It tells me that there are some dedicated 2the Long Walk" fans. So maybe they are not a lot, but they really seriously like it.

I think both of these stories (Rage and TLW) got kind of lost in the shuffle primarily due to the topicality.
