This one makes me laugh. What is so funny that my sister is unable to put the lollipop down long enough to get her picture taken.
😁 Priorities! My brother got lost once at a western-themed amusement park called Frontier Town. This was around 1973, so of course there were no cell phones and all they did back then was make an announcement over a loudspeaker. We found him hanging out in the “office” with the staff— a bunch of teenagers in cowboy clothes. He was stuffing his face with cotton candy and I was so jealous, I immediately wanted to get lost, too. I found the lollipop in another photo. This must be Disney World.

I'm not sure but I'm going to guess 1972. I believe that picture was taken at Opryland in Nashville. I think we were there when the park was brand new and on the wikipedia page, it says it opened in 1972. Nice. I was wondering about the amusement park. Opryland makes sense--with the giant guitar-people. I love looking at clothes in old pictures. Surprisingly, a lot of the clothes in this pic would still be acceptable today, although maybe not the plaid pants.😁 Here are some plaid pants. This must be my birthday. Check out the ugly swim trunks I got.
Then fast forward a couple of months and see the swim trunks
I think the first photo was at my grandmother's house. Check out the shag carpet and gold curtains. Then the second photo had to be at a Davis Brothers hotel. I made my parents stay at these hotels whenever we were in a town that had a Davis Brothers hotel because they had high diving boards. They had shallow pools and high diving boards so I didn't like going in head first. I think I skinned my head a couple of times on the bottom of the pool doing that. Just a completely unsafe 70s thing.

Haha yeah, I love looking at the furniture and decor in old pictures. Drapes and shag carpet galore. My dad's family is Italian and in the 70's my Grandparents had the stereo-typical plastic on the furniture. I always hated when my legs would stick to the couch.

I found some old 60s negatives. This is me and my sister at the Miami Seaquarium. My sister looks like she is hugging the dolphin.

This must be the parking lot of the Seaquarium and the water would have to be Biscayne Bay. Note the lack of tall buildings on the horizon. I was looking at a map and I think that view should be looking back towards Miami.

You have a very well documented childhood. Pictures seem a lot more genuine from the age before digital cameras and being able to snap a thousand at a time instead of having to wait for them to develop.

A while back, I started scanning the old photos and negatives my mom has so they will be saved digitally. Many of the photos and negative are deteriorating badly so that has been my project the last few months. I was thinking about starting a thread in the self promotion section to explain what I've been doing with this project and what I've learned along the way. I'm doing things differently now that when I started and have some advice to pass along. I created a drop box account for all of these that I've done and share the account with my family members.

I outta look through some of the scrap books my dad has made. My parents bought this ridiculous digital picture frame that essentially plays a slideshow of pictures you save to a designated folder. It's a neat idea I guess, but it's bulky and the fact I live in an age where a picture frame in my house has to be plugged into the wall is kinda ridiculous.

Sounds like an elaborate project.

Here I am in front of a spindly looking Christmas tree. Where the hell are the presents? Also, I notice that I'm standing on a terrazzo floor. That was a cheap floor then (not so cheap these days). That was the first house my parents bought and all the houses in that neighborhood had terrazzo floors put in by the builder (and the builder included one palm tree in the front yard ). I think dad said the house cost $10,000.00
The aspect ratio of that photo looks like it was taken with a cell phone. I think that was taken in 1963 so it couldn't have been with a cell phone. The negative I scanned it from was the old 120 film.

I remember when everyone used tinsel on their Christmas trees. You'd still be finding strands of that stuff around the house months after Christmas was over.

I made a trip to the UK 40 years ago and I have all kinds of photos of castles and cathedrals, etc that I have no idea what and where they are. I send some to edwardjohn to help me identify them. Here's one I found that I have no idea where it could have been. Help me, Ed. (i'm one of the ones without bagpipes )
In Scotland, there are bagpipe players waiting on the side of the road to play for people as they go by.
