The Seventh Seal (1957): Was a solid film with some clever philosophical exploration and Biblical imagery. As a religiously agnostic person I could relate to the main character, Antonius Block, a lot. That being said, his squire I was not a big fan of, was just really creepy sexually manhandling the woman he just rescued as if he now owns her. Still, great movie, 9/10. I have GOT to find this film and see it all the way through!Alas!.....I am so distraught that I have only gotten to see parts of it thus far in my years on this fine Earth! 😔💔So his squire was not as much of a 'Sancho Panzo' to this particular knight?Sounds like he may have been a bit more akin to 'Othello's Iago'.Bringing up another movie here...
Who has seen Guillermo del Toro's "The Shape Of Water"?! It's a visual feast to say the least! It's a wonderfully well done new take on a' Beauty and the Beast' story, with some 'Creature from the Black Lagoon' in the superb artistic mix. Everything about this film is great.
Also, I recently got to check out 'Hannibal' again. Just have to talk about that some more sometime soon. It's on HBO Max currently.

And now to wrap up my opinion on the Lisbeth story in the Dragon films... I watched the third and final film today, Hornets Nest and it had me more hooked then the first two even though it didn't have Lisbeth in the story enough, but to be fair, neither does the book. The final part of the story is more about her former partner and his magazine and him going above and beyond to get her found not guilty. Lots of great investigative work, and a lot of real life stuff that Sweden has had an issue with. I won't spoil anything but I'll say this, when the authorities get enough dirt to arrest the 'criminals' who have been operating in Sweden for eons, they shot it like they shot the arrest scenes in Mississippi Burning, they arrested each one in the places they felt safe and had friends around, and their facial expressions were great, just like MB. Sweden also doesn't roll 20 minutes worth of credits at the end of their films, so the very gripping ending, it happens in the last two minutes of the film. I was like, how are they going to end this and have credits, only 2 minutes left, but they did it. In short, Fincher did an outstanding job with the US version of Tattoo, but Sweden wins when it comes to doing the entire story, the US dropped the ball on the last two films of the trilogy, they didn't even bother to do a third. Great story. Nice review. I'd like to see the Swedish versions.
(DID get to finally see the Swedish version iof "Let me in" not too long ago. Excellent)
DID not like Foy as Lisabeth in the U.S. version of "Spider's web", but still fairly watchable, and she didn't do too bad.
I like your description of the 'arrest scenes'...reminds me a little of what happened in "Blow".

I like your description of the 'arrest scenes'...reminds me a little of what happened in "Blow". Very similar to Blow as well, I just went with Mississippi Burning since it came before other films. As for Spider's Web, its another film that proves Hollywood writers just aren't that great without book writers to rely on. I haven't watched the whole film, but what I've seen of it, it isn't bad, it just has nothing to do with the novels Larsson wrote. If it hadn't been for the sister bit, I'd just write it off as a a sequel to Nest, I mean Lisbeth wasn't going to stop hacking and investigating after Nest, she just did so because Larsson died before being able to write another novel, if he even had plans to continue her story. And Let The Right One In is a damn good film... still torn between that film and Let Me In, same story for the most part so it all comes down to location really. The US being the location does make it easier for me to relate but I'm starting to really like Sweden, seems like its nice and cold more often than not. I was made for cold weather not hot weather.... which is why I'm praying for the summer to end.

When it comes to the "Let the right one in" films...yeah...it is very difficult to say if one is better than the other. I think there were a few times in both flicks that scenes were done better in one film, compared to the other film. But both movies were equally great.

I think they took an already terribly interesting character and try to make MORE of her unnecessarily. By putting her into and around, really over the top circumstnces and characters. They tried too hard, and messed up Larssons work.
Larsson's writing is proof positive that so often "Less IS more"....I think.
Rapace, like Foy, I am not a fan of. I'm having a hard time imagining her being anywhere near as good as Rooney Mara was in the role. But I do like Nyquist! I hope I can come acrosss the Swedish version of "Tattoo".

Rapace, like Foy, I am not a fan of. I'm not that familiar with Noomi, I know her from the Alien prequels and as Lisbeth, but I have to give her the win over Mara because her Lisbeth is dead on to what Larsson created, Mara's isn't as dead on, close but not as good. Larsson made Lisbeth bisexual, introverted, and tough, Noomi sells all of that without an issue, Mara struggled a bit on the bisexuality and introversion, but sells the tough thing perfectly fine, but she comes off a bit wooden in the scene when she tortures the guardian who raped her, she was too matter of fact like about the camera, while Noomi handles it more aggressively like the novel. But here's the twist, while Noomi sells the lesbian scenes better in the Swedish films, Mara handles the hetro scenes better, and they were played out a lot longer in the US version on top of that. I wasn't impressed by Noomi in the Alien prequels however, but not all actors work that well with Scott, I didn't feel Oldman was at his best in Hannibal either, while he usually shines. I'm not saying it was bad work, just not his best. But Hannibal, while a good film, not even close to Scott's best films, I'd say Alien and Gladiator are his golden eggs.

Well, I just started The Girl In the Spider's Web, lets see if I can watch it all without falling asleep.
Not familiar with Foy other than the 20 minutes I've seen of the middle of the film before falling asleep, so I have nothing to base any opinion of her acting on, yet. But here's the weird part, I've never heard of this before, after Larssons death, the publisher brought in a new writer to write the 4th part of the novel series, so it isn't a trilogy, its a 4 part story, and he wrote Web, which is what the US based the film off of.
The newer writer does get the hacking thing accurate so far but lets see how this film moves... so far Foy hasn't made me tired, she's got the goth look and sells the intelligence, haven't seen a fight scene yet though to see how well she handles the toughness.

(Foy...I think she had some good moments, following and continuing Mara's interpretation of Lisabeth. But i still don't like Foy)
For right now? lol...I worked my a$$ off today, and I'm taking some time to just chill and relax with some tunes.
Not going to turn this into a music thread, but I came across these cool vids when I was looking up some flicks for 'elsewhere', awhile back.
Not all are my most favorite type of music, but I like these 😊 ....

I hope you got to finish watching "Spider's web", and I am looking forward to what you think of all of it. Its funny, its a US film but I had to rely on subs, the director went the same route that Nolan loves to go in, he went uber low with the dialog and uber high with the sound effects. Quite a few directors went that route in the 10's but many stopped after the popularity of Nolan's films kind of fizzled, the director of Web however did not, so that's strike one. Foy's performance as Lisbeth was hit and miss but based on the plot of the film, I'd say she did alright. If I was to grade the film as a stand alone film, I'd have to say it was a solid action film with some cloak and dagger elements. But the thing is, its supposed to be a sequel to Nest and Larsson went the thriller route, I mean Nest spends over an hour of the three hours on just her court case, that may bore the typical American movie viewer, but I'm more about solid dialog and back and forth verbal action than physical action. But for each their own.. In short, solid action film with some cloak and dagger elements but it doesn't come close to being a treat like the original three films, or the US version of Dragon. But I don't have buyers remorse, I'll watch it again down the road but in the end, I think Nest is my favorite part of the story, and I do think it should have been the finale. Seeing as how we're all King fans so we're all used to very in depth writing, I think most here would agree with me that Web doesn't have the solid writing that the earlier films thrived on. As for the music from Silence Of the Lambs, its all good... Shame about Q Lazarus, she could have been a new wave goddess but she didn't like the industry and went on to be a bus driver or taxi driver instead. Its like "Newt" from Aliens, she hated acting after doing Aliens and never did another film, went on to become a teacher I believe, which is a shame because she was a good child actress, but it wasn't for her.

Wicked Esther I Think It Didnt Get Release All At Once You Know Kinda Like The Green Mile By SK but That Annoys Me So When i Got it i Bought The Whole Book In One if You Know What i Mean. I Will Say This It Not Like His Usual Stories At All. Ah. Yep, I do know what you mean. I ‘m not crazy about that gimmick— releasing one part at a time . I’d rather wait until I can get the whole thing at once. Awwww!...it wasn't all that baaaaaad, you guys! 😊
(I knew eventually it would come out as a complete full book)
I totally got how he envisioned it being released in serial form, not too unlike many other authors had done some of their works.😊 "Dickens" is one (in his earlier days, writing stories in the newspaper) right off the top of my head.
I got a kick out of going to my usual grocery store, and looking hopefully for the next part of the King's story! I did mange to get the complete paper back set!
The anticipation was fun and nigh unto exhilarating, as well as the "smilie_wut_086 " moments, when the next arrival had not arrived yet!!! smilie_wut_086 applouse
...but...that's all just weirdo me... wuff 😋🐺😉

and I do like Craig as 007...mmm...took a few minutes to get used to him in the part, but he has done good! 😊 I never cared for Bond films until Craig took over, they were just too campy, which made it super easy for Austin Powers to satire the franchise. But Craig brought realism to the role, he sold the toughness and charisma better than the others, and the violence was more intense and the bad guys are just more realistic. As for Connery as Bond, I just realized that in The Rock, they were paying homage to his days as Bond since in the Rock he's a british spy... I have no idea how I missed that little throw back/homage spin in the Rock until last week, seen that film like 10 times.

Didn't The Flash say "Pet Sematary" after Superman came back to life and they fought him in Justice League. Yes, in the terrible Joss Whedon version of Justice League. But that "men are still good" scene is actually from Batman V Superman, not Josstice League (2017)“Martha” “WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME” Jesse Eisenberg would’ve made a better Riddler, cast Jeff Bezos as Lex Luthor, they look about the same and are both no stranger to unethical schemes. Well, at least Luthor has some understandable motivations for hating Superman in some versions.

Watching the chimps rumble over equally garbage movie franchises is a good laugh indeed Still better than Star Wars. The Mandalorian is decent but every other Disney Star Wars is not very good no.

I didn’t really like Batman Vs Superman and I watched the uncut version of that movie. I will say Snyder is a guy who makes what he wants, though, and I respect that. I also understand that personal tragedy was one reason Justice League was released as it was.
