Johnny deserves more love I mean the poor guy lost the woman he loved, got headaches, and only got to see bleak flashes of the future, and yet he still sacrificed himself to save the world. The casting was pretty solid in the film, I mean you can't go wrong with Walken and Sheen. Much like other work by King, it was the film first and the book after, and I was surprised to see how faithful the film actually was, not unlike Firestarter, which also has Sheen. But seriously, poor Johnny. Comes out of the coma, his woman is with another man and has a kid, and right away he's solving the case of a sicko killer who turns out to be a cop, and he ends up being shot by the mother of the sicko. So right back to the hospital for Johnny, and then he loses his mother and then he gets to have one night with the woman he loves but then he has to deal with Stinson, who is the definition of a sh***y politician.
Anywho, I just figured I'd put out a little DZ love....

Sheen, Skerritt....Johnny's mother and father were very good as well. Just saw it again the other day. Like you said deviancy, it was very true to the story. I read it around '84 (?) I think, before I saw the movie, but the paperback I had actually had a photo of Walken on the cover. So I always pictured Walken as Johnny, instead of having my own vision of how he looked, like I did with other sk characters I read about before seeing the movies made about any of them.

I read it around '84 (?) I think, before I saw the movie, but the paperback I had actually had a photo of Walken on the cover. The story is just sad but it's shows such a bright side to humanity as well. I mean he sacrificed himself to save the world, a world that didn't do him any favors. He wasn't a saint however, despite sacrificing himself to save the world, I mean he did sleep with a married woman, which isn't morally righteous but I think he redeemed himself by stopping Stinson. And man, Sheen played Stinson so well, when he tries to use the kid as a shield. But Martin has always been a solid performer, he was also great in his role in Firestarter, still a snake but a different kind of snake. He also pays the price in both films for being a snake, but in films we get to see karma, in real life, not so much. And I wish they'd re-print the Dead Zone with Walken on the cover but sadly, the only way they'll do a re-print with an actor on the cover is if they do a reboot, I don't want a reboot. And yes, I pretend the tv series never existed...

Have you seen the dead zone tv show? I love it, and it does have some Stephen king Easter eggs and the first episode does have the fair and the wheel of fortune in it. I find the the show very inspiring, but hate how it just got cancelled. It does have Sara, Johnny and Sara’s husband. And Greg stilts on in it.

the TV was okay but DZ was not structured to have a bad guy of the week formula. I loved the movie, anytime I can see Walken give his 100% is gold (I even like the series Sara plain and tall)
I am surprised the DZ doesn't get more love. That's a powerful story built on a good twist, what if the shooter was the the good guy. How often do you see that in fiction?
