Today we will discuss Turn Of The Screw by Henry James
Let's leave this thread until next Wednesday. This story is much longer than I expected and being 19th century, the reading is a little slower because of the language. If you've already read it, feel free to post your comments anytime but at least neesy and I need a little more time and I don't think Ed has read it yet either.
So feel free to comment if you've read it but I want to give this one an extra week.

Yes I think that is a great idea - there are 24 chapters which is a lot longer than I expected, plus the writing is quite convoluted (reminds me of watching Downton Abbey)
I'm only at the first chapter where she arrives at the house

Excellent idea. Slow reader here so do appreciate the extra time. 19th century writing style takes awhile to fall into the groove. See you next week!

I have finished but will hold off on comments. Other than to say it was difficult to get into the groove of the language in this one.

I started it but I've got stuff due this month for college so it might be a while, but I'll get to it soon.

As stated above, the language of this tale takes awhile to get into the groove. Was trying to determine if the governess was heroine or villain. Guess that was James intent as the unknown narrator , at the start , tells the reader they will need to decide her character. If the ghost was real and she was sane- then heroine. If the ghost is imaged, then she is increasingly insane.

I really don't know what to make of the governess. The accusations against the ghosts seem made up as she attributes her faults to the ghosts.
This is one I'd like to read again sometime. I think it's the type of story that you can see a little differently each time you read it.

Exactly- your last sentence is spot on.

Is the next group read "Going Home" by Straub? Yep. I read this one before my college studies ramped up and I can tell you, it is a really weird story.

Finally finished this story. I get what people are saying, depending on whether the ghost is real then the interpretation of this story is completely different. I lean towards the idea that the ghost was real, that the governess wanted to protect Miles and Flora from the entity. But what about that ending? That was surprising, it doesn't really make sense, what happens to Miles I mean, did the truth of the entity being real mean the demise of Miles? I'm not sure. This was different from our usual story, but a welcome change.
