I remember the Beatles song was from a compilation album called Rock and Roll Music. The single was released to promote the album and became a hit all over again. I bought the album when it came out and liked it because it was a compilation of mostly Beatles rockers. Interesting...thanks. Was it a K-tel type of compilation? I’ll have to look that up. No, it was an official release but is probably out of print. I actually have the album.

Funny how they all hated the cover. 50's nostalgia was definitely at a high point--American Graffiti, Happy Days, etc--so I get why the record company used that artwork, but at the same time, I don't like it, personally and I can easily see why the Beatles complained.

I'm going back and looking more closely at the 1974 list. Who remembers Billy Don't Be a Hero? My older cousins (girls) would play the 45 over and over and it scared me. I didn't really understand what it was about, I just knew someone was gonna die....

Here's another story-song that creeped me out as a kid....Run Joey Run from 1975. What's the deal here--girl gets knocked up, so her Dad shoots the boyfriend?

I think the one we talked about w/ Wildfire was Ode to Billy Joe. That one was spooky because Billy Joe and his girlfriend were seen throwing something off a bridge and then later in the song, Billy Joe throws himself off the bridge.
