Yesterday I watched Tales From The Darkside (1990) and was reminded of just how much I love horror anthologies. (Deborah Harry, Rae Dawn Chong, the kid from Mrs. Doubtfire, and even "Uncle Lewis" from Christmas Vacation....Come on--what's not to love?!)
What are some of your favorite anthologies?

Trilogy of Terror (1975)
mainly for the last segment, Amelia. That crazy Zuni doll was scary as hell.

I noticed on Criterion Channel, there is a French anthology of Poe stories (From the 60s I believe). I'm going to watch that and see how it compares with the Vincent Price / Roger Corman movies. I wonder if Roger Corman borrowed the idea from the French?

Excellent! I have a list of a dozen or so that are available on Roku and I plan to watch them in Sept-Oct. Most of them are from the 60's and 70's--I lean toward the Hammer & Amicus stuff, but I'll see if I can find Trilogy of Terror. Karen Black = awesome.

OK, let us know how it is. I've only seen the Corman/Price ones...Tales of Terror and whatnot. I love those.

Right- Those two guys- King & Romero were involved with Tales From the Darkside, too on the Cat From Hell segment. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention Steve Buscemi when I was talking about the cast. Shame on me.

The Raft was my favorite in Creepshow 2.
I had The Raft before it was published in Skeleton Crew. It was an insert in a magazine. I still have it. (I shouldn't have put my coffee on it )

I LOVE Trick R Treat. Very well done.
I thought the VHS movies were...okay. If you can get past the stomach churning camerawork popularized from the Found Footage genre, they're worth a watch.

Nice-I just looked up Trick r Treat on Roku and I can watch that one with my never-ending Fandango card. I love some of the horror anthologies enough to buy them, but I mostly tend to re-watch the old ones--like Hammer movies. So the plan is to check out a bunch of these on streaming channels and then get my favorite ones with my giant credit balance at Bookman's.

I watched one a couple of years ago for the October challenge called XX. I liked it and what was unique about it was that all of the stories were directed by women. I think I've seen it available on netflix (not sure though). I'm going to put that one on my list to watch again during the challenge this Oct. From what I remember, my favorite segment was The Birthday Party. There is a Jack Ketchum story in the movie.

Mick Garris's MASTERS OF HORROR doesn't get enough love, in my opinion. It aired for two seasons some years ago on Showtime. Back then, horror on TV/Cable TV barely existed. This series landed with a bang and didn't let up. It paved the way for the near-glut of horror TV shows today. I own both seasons on DVD (I even loved the opening theme). If you're a horror fan, I consider this mandatory viewing.

Absolutely. I forgot about that. I have the first season on blu-ray but I don't think the second season was every released on disc. I'll have to look and see if I can find season 2 on streaming.
I remember the fantastic Joe Lansdale story from season 1 (can't remember the name of it right now though)

I love me them horror anthologies, or portmanteau's if you will. My favorite is probably "Dr. Terror's House of Horrors", dreadful as it is. "Dead of Night" (1945) is probably the best. All the 1970's British Amicus anthologies are incredible. (Joan Collins vs a serial killer Santa Claus?!!) "Creepshow" (1982) was the best done since ... 1982? Such beautiful performances. Where'd all the actors go? I just watched a bizarre western horror (Yes I say horror! Some of this is dark as Wicked Esther's soul on a moonless night!) from the Coen brothers from about 2 yrs ago called "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs". Not for the timid.
