Some brainstorming, inspired by the group's ideas:
The Milburn house was considered haunted because of what happened there thirteen years ago.
A modest clapboard house with a gabled roof, it was situated on the outskirts of town, unaware of the trappings of civilization and the passage of time except for the nearby rumbling (every other day) of an Amtrak passenger train.
Schoolchildren out on a lark would go there to marvel and stare. The more extroverted ones would throw rocks at the roof, even break an occasional window, knowing full well that the house had been empty for the last thirteen years. Then they would regale their less intrepid classmates with stories of what they had seen and heard and done during their adventure at the mysterious Milburn house.
Tall tales, these were: whoppers. About ghosts and demons and evil spirits. About trolls, which were popular that year.
But a real demon had indeed existed, and she had lived inside that house. Her name was Morelia, and she lived in that house with her only son.

Hey Dizzy and prufrock21 😊 Those are excellent! I'm really enjoying reading everyone's things they're coming up with! Whatever we end up doing together as a group, we all ought to keep our ideas and write our own stories on our own and place them elsewhere, like doyoulove19 was telling Dio. This is great guys. 😊

So, we're almost done with day 2. I feel like we are definitely leaning towards a ghost/haunted house type of thing, but still need to hear from a couple more. Also, as has been pointed out there will be room to incorporate a few minor nuances to each individual's chapter, so other topics may come up.
Here's a rough timeline of what I would like to accomplish. Please let me know your thoughts, and again, I would like to hear from all of my writers, pretty please!!
Task Due date Establish theme 9/5 Work out other rules * 9/12 Finalize writing order 9/15 First writer's story due 9/21
Publish the story on the main board, starting on 10/21 with final chapter posted on Halloween!!!
*Other rules - word count, days to write, main writing style (3rd person, Point of View, etc.), any rules around character development of a previous writer's character, etc. etc. We will work these out as we get the the deadline.
Here's how the writing will work. By assigned order, the writers will work OFFLINE on their chapter of the story. Once complete, they will PM the chapter to me. I will check word count, work on any light edits and get back to the writer. You should feel free to question my edits, but word count will be firm and I may not wiggle much on the other stuff either!
Once each piece is final, then I will post it on a new thread that is part of this private section that we have access to. It will be read only, except for me. The other writers can now read the section and the next writer is on the clock. I will be reminding everyone when you due dates are and when you are up next.
Any questions, please let me know! I am really getting excited as I see the brainstorming and enthusiam! bokoebaFTerAfwUuywKb

How about along the whole basement idea it is a hand dug cellar under the porch of said house? (My grandparents had one). It always smelled dank and was cooler. Also walls were dirt and had wooden shelves placed in them. Could be a better conduit/lair for entity than concrete floor/block wall? Anybody else want some preserves now? Mama always had preserved...

There is an itch to see whats there...an itch that is maddening As a child I lived in a house (On Long Island) with a sub-cellar. It was barricaded but I'd swear that one day when I was a kid I looked down and saw somebody standing there.

I'm OK with tasks and due dates. As far as the short story goes, we should keep characters to a minimum and the time line to a day or so, otherwise we might find ourselves writing a novella and not a short story. (I believe Edgar Allan Poe said that the events in a short story should take place within a single day.)

Edgar was one of the best for me, prufrock21 . 😊 Oooo. That's creepy as all get out docpain2 , mmm......seen some really crazy weird stuff like that too, at times in my life. Good stuff y'all are bringing in here. I'm loving it!
I'm not wanting to go off topic too much, Miss doyoulove19 , but I have a question. When it comes time for you and Frank to confer on eventually closing this hidden thread, is there any way we can have it archived, where we or future Halloween Story writers can look back on it?
I know I would really like to have it preserved in some way. I just know this is going to be a great story this year! 😄 And yes! We will have another next year and years after! 😄
I'm callin' it! 😄♥️
