Will there be a basic outline for the story and characters or will the characters become known as the story unfolds?

Will there be a basic outline for the story and characters or will the characters become known as the story unfolds? I dont know how we will do it this time but earlier, on the SKMB, we decided as little as possible before writing started. So no middle or end of the story was decided, no characters, if a writer felt like making a twist or bringing in a totally new character it was up to him or her. The writer that was in turn could do what he/she wanted to push the story forward. Part of what made it so fun was that you never knew what would happen next.

It's just been fun kicking around ideas and having fun playing with them. π I like Doyoulove's list of themes, and the schedule/ agenda she posted. Was it like that with the last SKMB story, Kurbie? π

Many Characters from the board was in it. The Main parts were Flake, Dana Jean, Tery and Jordan. Our Moderators and the webmaster. Everyone from the board we could think of had a bit part, even SK. It was a kind of celebration, a thankyou and goodbye story and a lot of inside jokes. Very fun but i think some of the jokes and references would be missed by people not on the board for awhile. The other stories were like that. We decided a theme (Vampire, werewolf, Ghost, Apocalypse, zombie and so on), a setting and sometimes a way to write (third person or first person (He or I) and the number of words each writer had. Then we just let the creativity of the writers flow. It always worked out.

It was GREAT too. π .....I suppose every year it will be unique....as are all the participants. All I know is that this WILL be so much fun! Really excited about it all. π

Oh yes, I definitely want us to do it that way.
If no further objections, it seems like we are leaning to a ghost/haunting theme. Do we have a consensus on Small Town, USA or should it be Small Town, some other country, or what? I personally think 3rd person would be easier but would like to get everyone's feedback on that as well.

I'm happy with the theme doyoulove19 chose after seeing a number of other suggestions. I just hope I don't blank out when it's time to write.

I agree with the ghost/haunted house theme. Also, that it be in a small town USA, preferably regional, such as in Appalachia. No definite outline, because I believe each writer will bring something unique to the story. Third person narrator works well for me. Narration can be streamlined so that it sounds as if only one voice is speaking and not the voice of ten different writers. Writing dialogue affords more leeway, however, as not all characters sound the same. I like the way Hemingway renders dialogue, by the way--direct and without too many flourishes. Have we considered a title for the story yet?

Miss doyoulove19 , prufrock21 and I concur on all your last statements! ππ
....don't know if this is off base in any way, but couldn't it be sort generalized.....as in small town "anywhere"? So that all writers could just have a small town in mind and not be worried about working around/sticking to/ thinking of any specific country or region? π

We can always invent the name of a town. I like "Stillwater."

We can always invent the name of a town. I like "Stillwater." I like that name too, makes me think of things like the beautiful placid pool of Booya Moon, in Lisey's Story. π
I meant to compliment diobolic on how he came up with all those names of the rock stars and rock bands in his idea! π That was pretty ingenious!

I like ghost/haunted theme. Otherwise i prefer third person. So i would vote for that. Small town setting has my vote. I think in the US would be easiest since most writers are from the US. I think it should be an imaginary town. Personally i think that name and location in the US should be up to the first writer who ever that might be.
Oh, and by the way, Stillwater, wasn't that the name of that town were Gibbs from NCIS were born? I vaguely remember that. Is that a sort of homage to the TV-series??

I'm definitely agreeing with 3rd person. And I'm flexible as all get out on everything else. π ....not sure, but I think there may actually be a Stillwater , Oklahoma. Maybe DIOnysius, I mean diobolic , will know. He's gots lots of crazy useful useless info stored up in that big brain. ππ

But thanks for the extraneous and superfluous interesting information though! A "yes, there is a Stillwater,Ok.!" Would have sufficed to satisfy the curious. ππ
