neesy , are you still watching this? What about an episode of You Know They've Got a Hell of a Band - pretty sure I saw this on YouTube and it wasn't bad (but maybe it's not part of the whole Nightmares and Dreamscapes series.
I couldn't get on the main computer much lately because Andy downloaded a couple of games but now I am using his laptop when he's on the main computer.
Hey Esther - couldn't watch that episode with William H. Macy - too campy for me
I'm watching the episodes in order, so I haven't gotten to the "band" one yet. I'm up to #5 -The Road Virus heads North, which I haven't read yet. But yeah, the campiness is disappointing, right? And it's not the fault of the actors--they were obviously told to play the parts that way. Oh well...

Sheesh! He looks different as of 2019 (naturally) - still in pretty good shape for an old feller.

What in the blue hell is wrong with me? I didn't even know this was a thing!!! I had this on Audio book back in the 1990's. Drove across Pennsylvania once listening to it in its entirety. The made for TV version was ok, but not a favorite. That would be a good way to while away the time while driving - of all the films so far in Nightmares and Dreamscapes I think the one with William Hurt was the best (with the plastic soldiers)

Yes, and it was done in total silence. Crouched End was actually my favorite in the TV version. Umneys last case was my favorite on audio. It may have been because I was driving across the state to do my first missing persons / parental kidnapping job. So it really fit in with the trip.

If Tom Berenger is in a movie I'll automatically watch it. My favorite would have to be Last Of The Dogmen.

That was a good one as well. I've always thought he was a great actor.

Yes-thank you for that. And thank you, also, for letting me know I'm not the only one around here who loses books. I can't keep 'em under control. How do they disappear? It's like they run around the house when I'm not looking. Ooh that's creepy...

I watched the Autopsy Room Four episode and it was ok.
They changed quite a bit, added some unnecessary drama and of course they used that campy style again....blah.

For whatever reason, I was leafing thru 'Dreamscapes ...' just recently and looking at some of 'Umney's Last Case", I realized I'd never reading it! I even remembered SK commenting it was his favorite tale in the collection, but still, I'd didn't read it. I rectified that off & on over a few days, and wow, it was quite the yarn! I think I share the trait with the old gumshoe about hating change! Hemingway once commented that he left any place he'd ever lived regretfully (that's not right, but close), and this story made me think of the quote. Landry gave Umney the bum's rush! For now. I'm dubious of the TV version, but I'll probably give it a try. But not right away, I don't want to screw up the short story for myself.
I liked 'Crouch End' quite a bit. Wincing I was sure SK was being a bit too optimistic writing first-person as a Londoner, but he did an impressive job with the vernacular. Kind of stunning really. Not falling into having characters call each other 'Sonny Jim' or 'My Son' constantly and talking about things going 'pear shaped'. I watched some of the 'Crouch' TV adaptation on Youtube. I began skipping ahead, and it repeated itself! I think someone mentioned that happened on another episode. 'Crouch' was obviously a difficult property to film. From my reading, It didn't seem to lend itself to a TV adaptation that well.
