Oh yeah....almost forgot to tell you guys that I found all 8 episodes of this on Youtube. I watched the first one--Battleground--and definitely plan on watching the rest . I looked up short clips of a bunch of them and some looked familiar, but others didn't, so I don't think I caught all of these when they were on tv. Maybe I'll end up getting the DVDs.

What in the blue hell is wrong with me? I didn't even know this was a thing!!! Hah! Don't feel bad--I'm catching up on a lot of things from the 90's -early 2000's now because my life was a blur for a good decade... or maybe even a little longer . I was thinking I'd post about each episode here as I watch them. Maybe you can join with me so I'm not talking to myself in public, which I'm famous for.

Yes..I see that William H Macy was in another episode and Richard Thomas ,too. Did you get to watch the first episode, neesy ? Let me know when you're ready to watch the second one, I'll watch it, too.

What is in episode 2? My YouTube seems to be not in order.
By the way that short story was from his book Night Shift back in 1978, not the Nightmares and Dreamscapes book (still good though!)
Wicked Esther - I only know the above because I was looking for the PDF version of Nightmares and Dreamscapes so I could read the part where the soldiers send him a message under the door on a post-it note.
I figured Stephen King would have put "f*ck you" as the reply, not "screw you" but it turns out in the original book he had put "Nuts!"

Here is episode 2--Crouch End. Yes, some of the stories from the Nightmares & Dreamscapes tv show are not from that book. They come from different collections. I guess it was just a cool name for the show.

I watched that whole episode of Crouch End last night and it was just...meh. I consider it one of SK's weaker stories to begin with, so I'm a little puzzled as to why it was chosen for this show. They really had to s-t-r-e-t-c-h- out the thin plot to make a 45 minute show out of this one.
Umney's Last Case is next and I'm expecting more from this one, so we'll see how it turns out.

Hi Did you watch Crouch End? I think it would have been better as a 30 min episode. Umney is a long episode--over an hour, so I hope it's worth it.

neesy, are you still watching this? I watched Umney's Last Case last night. It has William H Macy playing multiple roles and was pretty entertaining. I have a slight complaint, though, and I don't know if it has to do with the production or direction of these episodes. It feels like they're treated "lightly", not quite campy, but there's an element of comedy that feels over-used to me. I hope all of the episodes aren't going to be presented this way. Some of these stories deserve a more serious approach. By the way...If you look for Umney's Last Case on youtube, steer clear of the version that's an hour and 15 minutes. The episode is only supposed to be under an hour. Someone messed up while recording this, so some of the scenes are repeated 2 or even 3 times. I thought I was losing my mind until I remembered that this was a weekly show, so all of the episodes should be approximately 45-50 minutes long.

Hi Esther - I didn't get a chance yet to watch Umney's Last Case but I will try to do so today - Andy was on the computer playing games yesterday for several hours.
I should get him to give me the password for his laptop - his is in much better shape than mine! (I keep forgetting we have a spare laptop). - he had been using the big desktop computer that I prefer.
I like William H Macy
Yesterday I did notice a paperback copy of Nightmares and Dreamscapes upstairs in the bedroom - guess it had been there for a while but I didn't realize it.
Just making some brunch and trying to wake up at the moment. applouse

Me too. I like him in everything I can remember seeing him in, from Fargo to Shameless. He's probably worthy of his own thread, so we can talk about his movies. Have a good brunch VWKKFduRFHVMhHXyDqLu

Alright, so I watched the next episode, which was "The End of the Whole Mess". I really loved that story and remember not being able to put the book down, I was so caught up in it. The Nightmares & Dreamscapes episode bordered on campy again, which is really starting to upset me. My (adult) son Richie watched it with me and said,"Mom, the production on this is like an episode of Goosebumps." That was a horrifyingly true statement if I ever heard one. He nailed it--that's exactly the problem with this show. They tried to make it appeal to a wider audience by toning down the tension and horror aspect to a juvenile level. I'll watch the remaining 4 episodes, but now I know what's in store....more Goosebumps.

What in the blue hell is wrong with me? I didn't even know this was a thing!!! I had this on Audio book back in the 1990's. Drove across Pennsylvania once listening to it in its entirety. The made for TV version was ok, but not a favorite.

What about an episode of You Know They've Got a Hell of a Band - pretty sure I saw this on YouTube and it wasn't bad (but maybe it's not part of the whole Nightmares and Dreamscapes series.
I couldn't get on the main computer much lately because Andy downloaded a couple of games but now I am using his laptop when he's on the main computer.
Hey Esther - couldn't watch that episode with William H. Macy - too campy for me
