This is a great read although compared to other King works its rarely mentioned. Not only is the story tight on its own it sets up certain events for Needful Things. But the major connection in this book is the fact it takes place in Ludlow, Maine. Yes, that Ludlow Maine. There some subtle call backs to Pet Sematary, but nothing definitive.
That's my beef. Why isn't there more references? I didn't expect this to be Pet Sematary 2, but with a history as wild as the fictional Ludlow has you'd think there would have been more of nod. You could say the events of The Dark Half might have occurred because of what town it is, but that is never specifically pointed out. I was disappointed that King didn't give us a little closure here (such as mentioning the bad happenings with the Creeds) or even mentioning that Thad's kid had buried a pet in the regular Pet Sematary.

Now THIS? This is the classic, thought provoking JB post I like so much. Great subject and observations for discussion. Will return to comment as my money work allows me to, Mr. Burdette. Keep on posting, buddy. Lol, and I was just thinking about The Dark Half the other day. .......about writing instruments.

I mean I get that Thad and his family likely didn't know about the Micmac burial ground, but everyone in Ludlow knew about the Pet Sematary. There could have been a simple through away line or mention of the the place (as well as a mention of the Creeds or even Jud).

Well, what if Ludlow is like other hot spots for supernatural/paranormal activity in Maine (and other places), Derry for instance. Everyone in Derry knew about the abductions, but not everyone knew about good old Penny Dreadful. And then there is the 'forgetting' factor too. Insidious wicked things have ways of hiding and making their presence less known and/or less memorable. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but I don't recall EVERYONE in Ludlow knowing about the Pet Sematary......let alone the Mic Mac burial ground.i think things naturally get forgotten over the years, then there are 'other things' that might help the forgetting a long. Maybe.
Hey JB Sorry it took so long to get around to posting here again. You doin' okay these days?

.....thinking about maybe starting a thread about the Berol Black Beauty.....and about preferred writing instruments of different kinds. I remember reading one about the pencils back on the SKMB. There was actually a Berol Black Warrior Pencil, but not a Black Beauty (that I know of) I wonder why Mr.King changed the name to "Beauty" instead of using "Warrior"? Couldn't be because of any registered trademark issues or copyright, because he did use the actual brand name "Berol". Or am I miserably mistaken about all of that?

Hardly anyone knew about the Mimmac burial ground, but everyone seemed to know about the Pet Sematary. Ellie found out about her first day of Kindergarten, so the kids talked about it. You might be right about it begin a 'best not spoke of" secret among the adults thought. It would have been a nice easter egg just to have it mentioned in some off hand reference. The tommyknockers had more of a PS reference and it was in a completely different town lol

I've never known him to be skiddish about copyrights, but maybe he just liked the other name better. I'm doing well here. Just had my oldest niece's birthday party and I am spending time with my daughter

I guess I just kinda saw the stories as happening in different parts of a town....and the neighborhoods (where significant events occured) were spread out and not right on top of one another. I mean what makes a small town a small town? Land spanse? Population? Both?........it's probably just me, over thinking, and not remembering everything. It has been sometime since I've read these books and I have only read them all once.

Heres something about that Dark Half I've sometimes wondered about, George Stark/Alexis Machine. Does anyone else, ever think of them being one person?
A favorite King character for sure. I have always considered Alexis Machine and George Stark to be the same person. Yeah, I know....I think weird sometimes.
Since George Starks personality, looks and way of speaking......etc..... were just the same as the character Alexis, that Thad dreamed up for his Stark novels, I just automatically considered them to be one person. George's car, style of clothes were exactly the same too.

What about you edwardjohn ? Have you read this book yet? It's a really good one. Seen the movie? The film was rather disappointing for me. Timothy Hutton just wasn't a good choice. I'm looking forward to a remake.

Castle Rock and Ludlow were close but they weren't the same town. Ludlow was also close to Haven Okay, I thought you were talking about them all being set in Ludlow, from your post. But since those 3 tales aren't, more reason for them not to be mentioned or talked about that much by other characters in other books. I think. I've always had a hard time remembering all the different places the books take place in, except for a lot of the main places like Derry and the 'Lot. I remember the 'different places' outside of Maine, a little bit more, like 'Christine', that took place in Pennsylvania.

Dark Half takes part in Castle Rock and Ludlow. Some of the Castle Rock stuff blurs for me, but when he mentioned Ludlow again I always remembered that because I always wanted him to touch on Pet Sematary again (which he did in tommyknockers and insomina)

Not sure about this and may have to read the book again. Shooter the defamation writer I thought was in the Dark Half, yet he turns up in a Secret Window.

I get The Dark Half mixed up with Secret Window a lot. Both about writers going kookoo....so I have trouble keeping the names of the characters straight.

I may have a bit of book amnesia, because when seeing the film Secret Widow, I thought I have read this. I presumed it was in the Dark Half, but may have been reading another book while reading the Dark Half. Do not even know which book Secret Window is in, knowing this might make it more understandable and less confusing. Both stories are about writers going KooKoo, but both are separate stories and need to know for my own peace of mind
