Attachment DeletedAs much as I like buying brand new shiny hardback and trying to keep them clean and tidy, theres something about a tired well read paperback that feels so satisfying, and if tape is structurally important, even better. My copy of it is my favourite book, it's so beaten up, I've read that copy twice, my auntie has read it, its front and back are taped on.
If you guys like them let's see some of yours.

I love them. I think the oldest paper back I have is a collection of short stories by R.A. Lafferty. Titled "Strange Doings".
I bought it from a used book store around 1981, it's looks a lot like you describe. Cover taped together and all. The ink on the cover is faded, and rubbed off in places, and the corners are soft almost like cloth. Some one read and loved that book very much, before I ever bought it. I think it was published in the '60s. I have it put away safe, to preserve it. I have put in searches online for the book and it's author and couldn't come up with anything.
The last two Stephen King books I have left from my collection, are paperback copies of the Bachman Books, and a copy of Misery that has a colorful piece of artwork on the very first page. It is a Bodice Ripper scene with Misery Chastain in the arms of a hero. In the usual ornate flowery script was the title: "Misery's Return". The face of the hero is Stephen King's. I've asked people on the board before (years ago on the SKMB) if anyone had that same paperback edition, but no one seemed to remember it, or have it.
I was disappointed later, when I got a hard cover of the novel, and there was no artwork page like that in it. Both those paper backs are put away safely with the Lafferty.

Dig: my PB of The Stand is comprised of two battered old copies. The guts are the full, unedited version, the cover is from the 800 page original (dark blue with those creepy eyes)—through my own clever laminating process I fused them together, and have a truly unique, one of a kind edition ain’t nobody else got.

This book is from 1967 ( just like me!). The cover is just barely hanging on. I can’t bring myself to put tape on it. Attachment Deleted

I dunno what I'm talking about.

Here’s my extremely tired, beat up copy of The Great Gatsby, which doesn’t even have a back cover anymore. I had to read it in 10th grade and then all five of my kids read this exact copy for school, too. It always made me a little sad that there was no artwork on the cover.

I can't get rid of it though -- I read it with my Pops! I have so many ridiculous taped-together books, I could post in this thread all day. It'd probably be easier to just have all of you come over for a field trip and see the insanity for yourselves.
