In recent days, the Newscasts have been filled with the announcement of Prince Harry and Meghan stepping down from being Senior Royals and becoming independent financially.
Many are speculating they will chose Canada -- either Toronto or Vancouver Island.
While I have an opinion, strong ones, on all phases of their sudden announcement, I will save my ranting to one specific piece of News that was reported yesterday. Security and the RCMP AND who foots the bill for this Security.
I am sure it is the same with many countries, including Canada, that when dignitaries
visit a country, that country is responsible for security and costs incurred. BUT if the dignitaries take up residence in that country there seems to be no hard and fast rule who is responsible for those security costs. In the case of Canada, we are a Commonwealth country so it seems to be a gray area.
In my opinion, Canada should not be responsible for these costs. The Royals have chosen to leave the primary country of residence. This is the responsibility of the Crown or better still their own personal responsibility for Security and its costs. After all, they have said in their announcement they wish to be financially independent.
This is solely my opinion. Thank you (Frank and members) for allowing me to do so.

I doubt very much they will move to Winnipeg lol They’re probably sick of all the royal duties and rigmarole involved over there in England. Anyway if they do choose BC (beautiful British Columbia) please try to take some photos for us - you’re an excellent photographer Alexandra  |

It's the same wherever any of the royals visit, the queen came over here a few years ago and all Garda (Irish police)leave was cancelled as they needed every Garda available, the security bill ran into millions, which the Irish taxpayers had to foot the bill and the Garda never got paid for any overtime which was forced onto them either.

I didn't know the Irish police were called Garda. I have seen security guards here called Garda
Not sure but I am thinking those who will be tasked with looking after the Royals would be the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police)

I saw the RCMP Musical Ride a few years ago in Portage la Prairie Manitoba - it was actually quite impressive

I don’t think the Queen will allow Mexit. She’ll find some way to give them leeway and remain Royals... along with their duties.
They’re stay in Canada is only short-term, though. They plan on moving to Los Angeles after a certain someone leave office.

It did say on CTV News last night that Her Majesty had contacted Prime Minister Trudeau a few days ago and they have spoken several times and Scotland Yard had been talking with the RCMP.

There was just an interruption on the TV for breaking news. The Federal Finance Minister said that after talks between the Prime Minister and Queen Elizabeth, Canada WILL be paying 'partial costs' for security. facepalm Or should I say the taxpayers will be paying.

She's an LA girl and apparently misses the lifestyle. Plus, her mother lives there. |
