Wow - did not know turnips were so good for you - maybe I'll go buy a couple of them today - they're good mixed in with mashed potatoes (Oh wait - I already said that)
Mashed with butter and pepper, or mixed with mashed potatoes are our usual ways. But also in stews. I did not realize turnip and rutabaga were different. My brother and I would take a spoon and scrape the raw rutabaga and eat it. Not the outside skin, just the inside. There were weird things we thought were treats. Lol

Lol Andy is from Scotland (I think you already know that) - anyway, he calls some of these root vegetables "swede" or "neeps" as in Neeps and Tatties (turnip and potatoes). They eat this on the side when they have their Robbie Burns Supper with haggis on January 25th.
They also start out with Cock-a-leekie soup

Pork chops, a store bought lasagne, and spaghetti squash. The last was done in the slow cooker. I forgot to ask how you prepare your spaghetti squash. I've only made it two ways - using it instead of noodles with marinara on top, and then with butter substitute, parmesan, garlic powder and pepper.

I have to take back my previous statement about not liking any squash besides spaghetti squash. I kinda like butternut squash soup. My mom makes it and it's pretty yummy. She made some today. I can't eat much, just a small cup and then I'm sick of it. A nice little appetizer.

Put 1 cup water in bottom on instant pot. Place squash, cut side up, on top of trivet. Set to high pressure for 7 minutes. When done quick release. Then eat it like spaggetti. I find it a little firmer than I usually do spaggetti.

(I cut and remove seeds after baking.)

MIL was Scottish. None of that was part of her cooking. She once served tongue for dinner. I almost vomited. It came with a side of cauliflower with melted cheese....which was horrible, but at least I could eat it. conversation..... future sil looking king at me: what’s wrong, don’t you like it? me: this tastes like it came out of a cows mouth! future sil laughing: well, it is tongue. i mean...who knew....it was just like biting your own tongue only fatter. Sooooo gross. Fortunately, future mil just laughed. She was a great cook and not offended that I did not like this one meal.

annamarie I love your avatar - YUM! neesy - I have never eaten turnips. I do like turnip greens - cooked southern style with lots of pork fat and some vinegar. Andy has the best words for food. Maybe he could write a cookbook? I'd buy it! doccreed I love Chinese food but I hate what it does to me: I can't get my rings off my fingers when I eat it. Yum on the peanut butter oatmeal cookies! morgan butternut squash: I cut mine in half, place them open side down in a casserole dish with a little water in it and bake for a long time. I like them mushy - and like sweet potatoes I like them sweet - with butter, honey and cinnamon. I also put butternut squash in my broccoli soup. I've been thinking I'd like an instant pot - I saw one at WalMart yesterday - those things are huge! I don't know where I would store it and I don't like stuff all over my kitchen counters. A dilemma. I made steak sliders and Mexican street corn last night - so good! I'm going to post the recipe in the recipe thread.

Tonight is home made vegetable soup with bread. I decided to bake dinner rolls but instead of gradually adding the flour one cup at a time I got impatient and put half in, then the rest tsk tsk.
The dough turned out 'tight'. So instead of dinner rolls I rolled it into nine nice long snakes, then braided them to make three loaves of bread. I brushed them with beaten egg and sprinkled them with sesame seeds. I hope they turn out okay and not too chewy. They're baking right now.

Yum! neesy - sounds like a great dinner. I'm glad the corn worked for you! I was worried about the cheddar.

Making pasta alfredo for the Munchkin. She had spacers put in her teeth yesterday, so I'm hoping the pasta will be soft on her sore teeth.

Since osnafrank posted about Beer and Pizza Day, I might have to make the organic roasted veggie pizza that's in the freezer! I don't have any beer though.

We had Chinese food tonight at the Empress of China - mostly prawns with vegetables plus some rice with chicken, shrimp and mushrooms.
