Surreal, black and white, French language with english subtitles, Greek myth retelling, Jean Cocteau may have directed, name of character and film is the same, Orpheus? Sounds more likely than Sin City Well, i obviously missed the first part

To be fair to Wolf she's far more forthcoming with the hints than I am.

Yes! I've been trying to get my boy to see "Strange Fruit" for ages, he's going to love that one when he see's it. Great cast there too.
New clues for quote: 1.) Filmed in black and white. 2.) Very Surreal. (and FINELY done!) Sin City ? No sweetie, I'm sorry....not Sin City.

No Wolf I'm afraid I don't, I think I saw or read about Orson Welles discussing Cocteau and mentioning the film.

The character who is quoted is a noun, and a verb. A natural and supernatural event. Sometimes calm, serene and peaceful, sometimes tempestuous and violent.

Maybe Frank or Doc might.

Oooh Frank! I'm thinking of an old Max Von Sydow movie! I know it's well known, but I don't know the name of it. And I have only gotten to see pieces of it. I really want to see this film. I bet you might know what movie I'm talking about. Max Von Sydow plays a German Knight. It's filmed in black and white, and is all in German with English subtitles.

"Achilles!!"
"Are you not entertained!?!?" Yes! Those are 2 all time favorites. I loved Troy! So good to see Peter O'Toole in that. And working along side Nigel Terry too. Remember the Lion in Winter? Pitt's scene with him was wonderful. O'Toole Brilliant.Troy, Gladiator?
