that's the first i heard about straub. sad. has anyone here followed his recent work? his books (for me) have been often brilliant, but wildly uneven. 'mrs god' has been my go to lately when i want to get mildly creeped out.

Peter Straub's death wasn't mentioned in the news. I haven't read Mrs God and I see conflicting reviews on the web.
Ghost Story is brilliant. I think it must have inspired Sai King's The Outsider.

Peter Straub has passed away today. He collaborated with Uncle Steve on The Talisman and Black House. He was a brilliant writer. Uncle Steve has expressed his deep sadness in his Twitter account.
locusmag.com/2022/09/peter-straub-1943-2022/ I just found out about this today. Such a shame. The Talisman is one of my favorite fantasy novels. Its a bit of a shame that we never got the third book in the series, but we all knew that it would have been great. And we should be happy that they collaborated at all with their very busy schedules.
I'll miss you, Peter.

I'll always remember a story Peter told about Elmore Leonard. Elmore had written a very negative review of Ghost Story when it first came out; I think he called it hype, not fiction, or something like that. Anyway, Straub never forgot that review (and never read any Leonard after it) and when he found out he was going to a wedding, years later, that Elmore was also going to, he decided to ask him about it. Suffice to say that Elmore was a bit embarrassed, jokingly saying that Peter probably wanted to punch himself. But they soon forgot about it all and became friends; Peter even said himself that if anyone had a right to call his work s*it, then it was Elmore (based on how good his books were).
A story that demonstrates how great Straub and Leonard, authors that sadly are no longer here, were.

{I remember noticing Stu (Gary Sinise) reading a Leonard novel in the hospital. That was a cool 'prop touch'.}
I don't see why SK can't write a threequel on his own. Wish he would.
