Oh, I love it, Wolf! I was always a fan, but I never became a serious fan until like a year and a half ago. Yeah, I love the old scene! The guys today don't have anything on the legends of the past. Connors, Borg, McEnroe, and like you said: Nastase. I love that guy!
And what about Jimmy Connors? The dude was too p*ssed to lose! Wolf, do you remember Jimmy's famous 1992 US Open run? Me and wireman think this is the best point of all time!
Really enjoyed that vid, thank you! I'll catch up, and start us a tennis thread in sports soon, "Tennis : Past, Present an on..." "Awful tired now, Boss." Have a great night, Edders!🙂
I hadn't realized Connors was still competing as late as 92, edwardjohn . I didn't have a lot of time to follow much on tv during those years, let alone sports.
Heard on the news this morning that Chris Everette is doing well after battling cancer, and will have preventative surgery. Hope all goes well for her.
I really enjoyed watching tennis with my gran, she particularly loved the sport and had been a very good player when she was younger.
I remember watching all the stars from that era. John Newcombe, Arthur Ashe, of course Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean. I remember when the Ice King, Borg, first came on the scene. (I think that was what they had nicknamed him, it's been so long ago) Lol, I never liked McEnroe. NO ONE did. 😂 I have noticed over the years he has done quite a bit of tv...lots of cameos as himself, and a role on Law and Order once. 😄
Evonne Goolagong, Martina Navratilova, Vitas Gerelitas....all great players.
There was one guy who wasn't around very long, and I don't think he was ever really great. Big guy with long brown hair, Australian maybe...and I think his name was Nash. Saw him play Borg, he lost. The one thing that was most memorable about him was how his right arm was MUCH more developed the his left. It was very noticeable. Maybe wireman might recall who I'm thinking of.
Later watched some of Andre Agasse and other newer and younger stars.
I remember when Venus and Serena were just little girls. They were instant stars and so pretty with their distinctive beaded hair. Venus started out being the more successful and celebrated of the two. Boy, that sure changed! I haven't heard much about Venus for a very long time.

I always love these personal experience stories with relation to the sport. When you say you saw a guy play Borg, Wolf, do you mean live? Because that would be awesome!
Yeah, I loved all the old players! You really had to be an all court player back in the day to get anywhere, not like these back of the court bashers you get today.

Thanks for the memories, Wolf! I always love these personal experience stories with relation to the sport. When you say you saw a guy play Borg, Wolf, do you mean live? ----- Live as in on TV live. I think that match with Nash might have been Wimbledon. I remember it was a Saturday, and we were at my uncles house visiting, and his wife turned it on for gran. Must have been around 1976, I would have been 10. I saw MANY, if not most of Bjorn Borg's matches. 🙂
Because that would be awesome!

Still very cool. The problem is with a lot of the matches from back in the day is that the quality isn't good. You can get good Connors matches, for example, but they're usually from the later stages of his career. Oh, and I forgot to say, Wolf, Jimmy's incredible US Open run was in 1991, not 1992! But he did play in 1992! Jimmy was insane then, he was playing at such an awesome level when most of his contemporaries had retired or long since retired!

Yeah, back then VCR's were still very far from being common. Unfortunately.🙂💔

Great bring, really enjoyed that. Thank you, Edders! 😄
(Yap! Jimmy was known to throw a tantrum or two on occasion. Chris always seemed to remain calm and cool at all times. )

Poor John McEnroe was far less likeable and harder to forgive. Hey, they ALL brought it upon themselves with bad behaviour. 💔🙂

I find watching Tennis relaxing and I really appreciate the skill, strength and precision of the players. For some reason I always enjoy watching sports that I can't, don't, or don't like to play. (with the exception of the Tour de France) I don't want to be posting TOO MANY vids, but here's another I'll watch more of (along with the match above) another time 🙂 ♥ ....

Poor John McEnroe was far less likeable and harder to forgive. Hey, they ALL brought it upon themselves with bad behaviour. 💔🙂 Ha! True! John's a really great commentator now as well. He tells it like it is (much like in his playing days). To all of John's detriments, I believe that me and wireman believe that he was actually right about most of the things he was complaining of! But year, the tantrums! But some players need that to play better, Wolf.

Congratulations to Victoria Azarenka on making the AO semi final at the age of thirty three years young! Incredible!
