My goodness, wolf, what a saga. 
As a former inmate employee of the Palace of Earthly Delights, I can attest that's a very Wal-Martian thing to do. Overdo it one year, underdo it the next. Thank goodness at the library our problems are much simpler...the Friends of the Library got together and put our tree up last week, but the angel topper was being uncooperative so they left it off. I've noted that the library is "going topless" for Christmas but strangely they don't want me mentioning that to the patrons... 
What are we having? Not sure yet. My cousin had ambitious ideas for Thanksgiving at my grandparents' old homestead but that didn't come off...her mom's health is fragile, unfortunately. So it's likely that Christmas, like Thanksgiving, will be at another family member's place. I've got the Doctor Who Cookbook on hold to see if I can come up with something unique to bring.

I liked the sound of your Martian mashed potatoes you made at Thanksgiving.
Were those a recipe from you Dr. Who cook book?
I’ll have to look that up and see if I can find an excerpt or two from it.  
….I just remembered, I need to add a Mrs. Smith’s frozen mince meat pie to the grocery list. I’m not baking from scratch this year.
Though my kid’s dad will bake a homemade pecan pie, like every year.

I got the idea from a mashed broccoli recipe I found online, and modified it a bit by adding roasted red peppers and minced garlic. The "Martian" name came from the green color, of course, although I got a bit carried away with the garlic...  |
