Last Wed. I received an email from a self proclaimed hacker who said if I did not pay $833. in bitcoin he would wipe my computer of all my files, pics, etc and said he had accessed my passwords including bank and credit cards too. I had 48 hrs to pay him. Talked to an expert and he said to change all my passwords and to stop reading the email. I went one step further and ordered a new Debit card. I have McAfee and the MS security. Has anyone else received an email like this?

No I've never received anything like this but I think you did the right thing by not contacting them (of course) and following the advice of changing your passwords, etc.
So horrible - sorry to hear about this. Try not to worry too much. It must feel like an invasion of your privacy smilie_tra_055 ((((Alexandra))))

I pay for IPVanish for my Firestick & PC, (8$ a month) but nothing else! I love experimenting with the free stuff. For antivirus, I like AVAST the best, but AVG & Bitdefender are both very good. Always keep Malwarebytes on your PC! Always! It's free, blocks a lot of stuff, and has a great cleanup utility. I use superantispyware too. It's very good! You can't be too careful.

Changing the Passwords etc. was a good Idea but why did you open this Mail ? Don't open Mails from an Unknown Sender !!
We don't get such Mails here but sometimes People get a Trojan Horse, that blocks the computer and you can only see this Screen (or similar)
You be asked, to transfer Money to an Account, then the PC will be unlocked. It's Blackmail and sometimes it isn't easy to remove this dang Trojan, especially if you don't know where to look for it. Sometimes you get a Screen like this It's the same, Blackmail. It appears with a lot of Noise and a Voice is telling you, that the Pc is blocked now etc.
A simple Restart will fix this.
Please don't open Mails from an unknown Sender

@osnafrank Thanks for the information About opening the email … Whoever sent it must have accessed my contacts before sending the mail, because it showed up in my InBox and was from my older daughter's email address. That is why I opened it. I had no reason to NOT think it was from her. Just thought I should mention that

@osnafrank Yes, her email address is Yahoo, mine is Hotmail. I have a Yahoo email too but use it for purchasing on line. You have me thinking I had better change to another email address for purchases on line.

Will this help me with the problem I am experiencing here lately? I try to type normally but there is a delay between my keystrokes and the letters appearing on the post.
Then I have to resort to using my on-screen keyboard and the mouse which is a pain in the arse. Or I can use my screen to touch type which is faster (but still not as good as using my actual keyboard).
Any idea what could be causing this? It doesn't happen on SKMB
Any help would be appreciated, as I find it very frustrating

An Australian IT-Expert found a huge dataset of email addresses and passwords.
You can check it here, if your Account has been compromised.haveibeenpwned.com/

Are your Firefox extensions are all disabled ? This is a bug
Mozilla started to roll out a fix for Release, Beta, and Nightly versions of Firefox. The fix uses Mozilla Studies, and you need to make sure that this is enabled to get it. Mozilla notes that you may disable Studies again after the fix is applied and add-ons have been re-enabled. You need to make sure that "Allow Firefox to install and run studies" is checked on about:preferences#privacy.

Funny you mention this. I got a similar "threat" about three weeks ago at my work email. The hacker said he had pictures of me, er... being "extra-nice" to myself and said he'd release them if I didn't provide all my banking details. I just laughed and though to myself "Joke's on you buddy. Everyone knows I'm single so good luck with that."
I deleted the mail and moved on with my life.
True story, but on a serious note: the important thing to remember here is DO NOT ENGAGE the person if you receive emails like this. Especially don't click on any links or such. And yes, changing your passwords was a good precautionary measure.
